Besides Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, there are several options within a few hours to seek out the best snow, backcountry opportunities, and a variety of terrain. Unfortunately there are no regional lift tickets.
El Bayo - Located just outside Villa la Angostura, this ski center is smaller and quieter than Catedral. Great views and some excellent tree runs. There are limited lifts and infrastructure, and is just over an hour from Bariloche. Cerro Chapelco - Rivaling Catedral for services, Chapelco lures more families and higher end tourists. The city of San Martin is a storybook mountain village, with interesting architecture and a well-planned downtown. With three routes from Bariloche (Seven Lakes, Paso Cordoba, or via Junin) the 2-3 hour trip offers spectacular scenery but can be challenging with heavy snow. La Hoya - (link , prices) Esquel is about four hours from Bariloche, but is a backcountry playground. The simple infrastructure keeps many of the less experienced on the main slopes, and allows the adventurous to find powder and incredible runs. Perito Moreno - El Bolson is not known as a great ski resort, and sticks to its "hippy" roots with Perito Moreno. Very small with mostly rope lifts. Interesting to check out, but be prepared for basic services. Antillanca - Just across the border in Chile, Antillanca is a fun little resort with heavier snow. The access road is an adventure unto itself, and lodging is limited to one of two hotels at the base. Farther Away: Las Leñas - Much further north, usually difficult to combine with Bariloche unless you arrange special transport. Higher altitudes means better snow coverage, but less to do at the base if the weather is bad since it's relatively isolated. Overland is a good 10-14 hour trip, and no direct flights from the south. Chilean resorts: Portillo , Valle Nevado , El Colorado are best reached via Santiago. Pucon is another. These are just listed for reference and we do not book trips to these resorts. Here at Barilochetrips we specialize in trips to Bariloche and Cerro Catedral, but can help organize trips to other ski centers nearby. San Martin and Villa la Angostura are the most popular options.
